Winter Woolies on next weekend
Maryborough Horse Riding Club’s biggest event of the year, the Winter Woolies show, returns later this month.
Settling into the equestrian calendar for its second year, the event attracts riders from across the state for a competition of all skill levels.
The day has a full schedule across two rings, including official points-earning classes and a relaxed non-points ring.
The official ring features classes including Smartest on Parade, Ridden Mount and Best Educated Mount.
But it’s not all serious with classes like Happiest Combination, Hairiest or Fattest Pony/Galloway/Hack and Most Bling!
Promising something for everyone, both for competitors and spectators, all are welcome at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club on Saturday, May 24.
Club spokesperson Elise Binks said she hopes locals will take the opportunity to support the club and see what they’re all about.
“This is our club’s one big fundraiser for the year,” she said.
“We’re a small, volunteer-run club, and the money raised from this event goes straight back into supporting our members — helping us purchase equipment, upgrade our facilities, and provide a safe, inclusive space for learning with qualified instructors at our monthly rallies.”
Previously the club’s navigation ride was their biggest fundraiser but after Winter Woolies success last year the two events will now coexist — the former now a shorter event later in the year.
“We’ll see how that goes,” Binks said.
Alongside the competition will be a sausage sizzle and raffle with prizes made possible thanks to the club’s sponsors.
Ms Binks thanks the community for their past and continuing support.
“A shout out of thanks for all the local support we get,” she said.
Entries for competitors close today while spectators are warmly welcomed by the club.
