Trentham’s accuracy was near perfect in their first quarter at the Newstead Recreation Reserve on Saturday, kicking five goals to the home side’s one.

The second quarter was much of the same but the dial was turned up as the Saints slotted eight goals and a behind to sit at 80 points, while Newstead trailed at 27.

Returning from the half time break, Newstead added 13 points to the scoreline while Trentham started to slow with only 21 points of their own.

The final quarter was likely the most interesting of them all, with Trentham, despite their 61-point lead, able to kick just a single behind to bring their total to 102.

Newstead saw red on the other hand but were punished by inaccuracy in front of goal, kicking three goals but four behinds to sit at 62 points at the final siren.

Trentham’s James Regan performed well to kick five goals for the match alongside Thomas Fuller with three and Zachary Gervasoni with two.

Jake Keogh, Sam Kelly and Tom Boyer also earned their respective places in the best for the side.

For Newstead it was the efforts of Michael Dalrymple, Alex Murphy, Nicholas Woodman, Hayden Hall, Nicholas Lord and Ethan Maltby that were recognised post-match.
