Tigers roar proves too good for Bulldogs’ bite
Lexton made a successful return from the bye, producing a dominant performance to defeat Avoca by 73 points at Lexton Recreation Reserve.
The victory was the 27th win in succession for Lexton over Avoca since the year 2000.
The Tigers set the tone from the opening bounce, controlling possession and field position to keep the Bulldogs under constant pressure.
While Avoca’s defence worked hard to limit the damage early, Lexton’s superior ball movement and ability to find targets inside 50 eventually proved decisive.
Lexton established a 12-point lead at quarter-time before blowing the game open in the second term.
The Tigers piled on seven goals to two in a devastating quarter, with Pat Parr, Josh Carey and Jaxon Thomas proving difficult for the Bulldogs to contain. By half-time, Lexton had stretched its advantage to 42 points.
To their credit, Avoca showed greater resistance after the main break and were more competitive through the midfield.
Campbell Blair, Daniel Howell, Bryce Howell and Brodie Quinlan worked tirelessly to keep the Bulldogs in the contest, but Lexton continued to answer every challenge.
The Tigers maintained their intensity throughout the second half, adding eight goals to three to steadily increase the margin.
Their ability to win the contested football and transition quickly into attack ensured they remained in control for the entire afternoon.
Parr was outstanding in front of goal, finishing with five goals, while Thomas added three majors and continued his excellent season.
Carey also hit the scoreboard with two goals and was among Lexton’s best players alongside Eric Wilkinson, Rory Wakefield, Austin Corliss and Dylan Hinchliffe.
For Avoca, Blair battled hard all day and finished with three goals, while Daniel Howell, Bryce Howell, Quinlan, Darcy Coghlan and Tyson Gray were named among the Bulldogs’ better performers.
