Talbot students play key role in Anzac Day service
The Talbot community paid tribute to its servicemen and women on Saturday with an intimate and communal Anzac Day service.
Local veterans were joined by their families, Talbot Fire Brigade members, Talbot Primary School students and residents to open the service with a march.
Starting at the London House, the march was led by Maryborough Pipe Band’s Hamish Hare as participants moved towards the Talbot Soldiers Memorial Park.
After the march, attendees gathered for a brief service starting at 9.15 am, commemorating the bravery of local Anzacs, with many paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Jonny Fisher played the bugle for the proceedings before Central Goldfields Shire mayor Ben Green and Talbot RSL sub-branch president Skip Lynch made speeches about the importance of the day.
Several wreaths were also laid in remembrance.
After the local service was nearly forced to be closed down three years ago, Mr Lynch said he’s proud to see the Talbot community gather to cherish Anzac Day together.
“I can’t thank the community enough and they know that. I meet them down the street every other day, and we just really talk about it,” he said.
“I love it because I direct it more at the kids because they’re the ones that are going to carry it on.
“Without the Anzacs, we wouldn’t be here, we would be talking a different tongue and we wouldn’t be celebrating it.”
