Talbot secure 116-point win over Avoca
The Talbot Hawks showed the MCDFNL teams that they will be a force to be reckoned with they put the Avoca Bulldogs away by 116 points.
Newly appointed coach, Dave Connell, has brought a number of key players with him for the 2025 season and they showed the Bulldogs a clean pair of heels from the opening bounce.
Seven goals in the opening term, third term and final term showed that they are a consistent team and the accuracy was on song as Jarrod Stephens and Dean Limbach slotted six goals apiece.
The latest of many recruits is Jamieson House, who is a former Tasmanian State League player with Launceston and came to Talbot after a season with Deer Park in the Essendon District football League.
House was easily best player on the ground dominating possession and showed he will be a great asset for the Hawks. The Hawks have recruited strongly and will have some trouble juggling their team to fit under the points and have had to apply for some reassessment of player points for a couple of their players to allow them to fit inside the points cap.
It was a disappointing day for the Bulldogs after such a great start to the season when they toppled the Giants, but they were brought back to earth on Saturday. It was difficult for the Bulldogs to score as the ball was hardly in their scoring zone, as the Hawks won the on field battle in the middle of the ground.
Talbot named their best players as, Jamieson House, Jarrod Stephens, Luke Kemp, Josh Britten, Alex Marshall, and Jayden Hind with 6 goals apiece to Stephens and Limbach.
Avoca’s better players were Scott Cawthan, Riley Hamilton, Tyson Gray, Lachlan Wardlaw, Daniel Howell, and Matthew Wardlaw. Tyson Gray was the only multiple goal scorer with two goals.
