Running from Thursday, September 25 to Sunday, September 28, the statewide road policing operation saw police targeting high-risk driving behaviour, with increased roadside alcohol and drug testing conducted over the four days.

A total of 5,088 offences were detected across the state throughout the operation, which included 31 offences in the Goldfields Police Service Area.

Speeding offences made up the majority of local records, nearly 68 percent of road offences in the Goldfields region, with 21 offences over the four-day period.

Other offences included three unregistered vehicles, two disobeying signs/signals, two drug drivers, one drink driver, one disqualified driver and a seatbelt offence.

The day after the conclusion of Operation Scoreboard on September 29, a vehicle was intercepted in Carisbrook, allegedly travelling at 110 kph in a 60 kph zone.

The vehicle had a cancelled registration, expiring in 2024 and was towing an unregistered trailer with no registration plates affixed.

Police impounded the vehicle for a period of 30 days and the driver received an immediate driving ban.

The driver received charges relating to the offending and will attend court at a future date.

The vehicle was issued with a defect notice for multiple reasons relating to being in an unroadworthy condition.

According to Central Goldfields Highway Patrol Sergeant Paul Martin, these recent incidents serve as a reminder for local motorists to remain vigilant behind the wheel.

“These results highlight that, despite repeated warnings, too many motorists are still making choices that place themselves and others at serious risk,” he said.

“History tells us impaired driving is a recurring issue over the Grand Final period, and the outcomes from this operation confirm exactly why police continue to place such a strong focus on road safety during this time.

“Removing drug and alcohol impaired drivers and speeding drivers from our roads remains a significant focus for Central Goldfields Highway Patrol and local police.”
