While the Redbacks entered the contest as overwhelming favourites, the first quarter painted a different picture.

The Magpies went toe-to-toe with the Redbacks in the opening 15 minutes, trailing 14-9 at quarter time.

While goal shooters Elouise Jones and Abbey Nalder struggled with the overcast conditions, goal attacks Jordan McClure and Jemma Finning led the way for their respective sides in the first quarter.

McClure netted nine goals from 10 shots for the Redbacks while Finning scored eight for the Magpies. McClure’s teammate Nalder made five from 12 attempts and Jones added one for the hosts.

The Redbacks made three substitutions to start the second quarter, with stars McClure, Laura Hurse and Chloe Egan replaced by Millie Cassidy, Ella Pattern and Paige McLean.

The changes worked a treat for Carisbrook, stamping their authority on the contest with a 20-8 second term to lead by 17 at half time.

Nalder started to find her rhythm in the second quarter, scoring 16 goals with McLean contributing four.

With Jones’ uncharacteristic inaccuracies continuing into the second with three goals from nine attempts, Taylah Sartori was moved into the goal circle late in the term, scoring one goal while Finning made four.

Looking to replicate the success of Carisbrook’s quarter time switches, Campbells Creek reshuffled their lineup to start the second half.

While it paid some dividends, the reintroduction of McClure and Hurse allowed Carisbrook to pull further away, with the margin sitting at 29 at the final break.

McClure’s time on the sideline didn’t cool her shooting touch, combining with McLean to score 23 goals from just 29 shots.

Finning continued to be a consistent goal threat for the Magpies, netting nine while new shooter Tarni Williams added two.

A 17-8 final quarter officially sealed the result for the Redbacks, with their defence stepping up in the last 15 minutes.

Nalder scored 12 and McClure went five for five to finish with a shooting percentage above 85 percent for the match.

After Williams scored one goal early, Jones was subbed back in and got her confidence back with four goals. Finning finished a solid performance with three goals in the final term.
