Rebate on car registration fees now available
Victorians can get a bit more cash in their pocket with a 20 percent rebate on their registration starting this week.
Community members can get a rego rebate as of the start of June through the Service Victoria app or website.
Those eligible will get the full rebate, regardless of whether they pay yearly or in installments, and can claim up to two vehicles in their name.
It’s cash back which, for a light vehicle registration costing up to $930.70 every year, would mean $186 back for one vehicle or $372 back for a family with two cars.
To be eligible for the rebate, Victorians need to have paid their registration between July 1 2025 and June 30 2026 for a light vehicle for personal use. This includes cars, utes, motorbikes and any vehicle under 4.5 tonnes.
Applications must be made through a Service Victoria account with payments made by direct bank transfer — usually within 30 days.
Applications require the registra-tion number, full name, Victorian driver license number or VicRoads customer number, and bank details.
The initiative runs for two months from June 1 until July 31 this year.
Half-price fares also started this month, running until the end of the year, applying when someone touches on.
Under half-price fares, a full daily fare will cost $5.70 to travel anywhere across the state – not $11.40.
Public transport will remain permanently free for under 18s and other special pass holders.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said she’s “determined” to help Victorians under pressure.
“This won’t fix everything, but it’s real help right now to make a difference,” she said.
