After losing their first two games, the Steaders will enter the bye with two wins under their belt as they hope to repeat as finals participants in 2025.

The contest started at a frantic pace, as both teams brought an electric offensive tempo and energetic defensive pressure which resulted in end to end action.

While there were some nervy attempts at goal in the opening term, both shooting duos did a remarkable job of grabbing offensive rebounds consistently, providing opportunities for second-chance goals.

It was Newstead who had the slight 14-11 advantage after the first 15 minutes, with Tayla Gale netting nine and Brianna Jury scoring five.

Player-coach Lillie Wrigley led the way early for the Eagles with seven goals, which included some impressive long-range makes, while Zoe Aldridge added four from five shots.

Newstead started to assert control on the match in the second quarter, with a perfect 10 shots from Jury the catalyst for the Steaders to extend the gap to 11 goals at half time. Shooting partner Gale added six goals from nine attempts.

After some impressive interceptions in the opening term, Newstead’s Chelsey Williams continued to make life difficult for Wrigley, who scored two goals from seven shots in the second quarter.

Aldridge kept the Eagles in touching distance with six goals in the second term.

However, it turned out to be an appetiser for things to come as the Steaders stampeded out of the main break to take the third quarter 22-5.

Robotically accurate entry passes from Jessica Currie and Katie Tong allowed the Steaders to have 31 shots for the term, while the entire team stepped up their defensive play to only allow 13 shots at their net.

Jury once again top-scored for Newstead with 13, while Gale netted five and Emily Cooper cameoed with four goals. Aldridge added three goals for the Eagles while Wrigley scored one.

While their offence continued to hop along, the Steaders defence, anchored by Williams and Tahni Clark continued to smother the Eagles attack, blowing out the margin to 43 goals when the final whistle blew.

Gale got into a comfortable groove alongside Cooper, as she netted 11 goals from 13 shots while Cooper continued her impact in the goal circle with nine shots converted.

After being subbed on midway through the fourth quarter for Wrigley, Chloe Goodwin made the most of her time on the court with four goals, while Aldridge added an extra goal to finish with 14 for the day.
