Logwood recruit Bailey McMurtrie kicked the opening goal of the game for Newstead, just five minutes into the game.

The umpires appeared to be letting play go, and there was a lot of back and forth play before Ethan Maltby snapped truly for the home team at the 18-minute mark and the Steaders led by twelve points.

The second term was one way for the Eagles, kicking four goals in succession before McMurtrie kicked his second goal for the game just before half time. The Eagles led by 20 points.

Sam Daldy had a goal on the board inside 15 seconds from the centre bounce, which had the Steaders up and about, however goals were at a premium for both teams.

A snap from Joel Smith at the 12-minute mark brought the margin back to eight points, but a response from Ryan Burt just three minutes later was the final major for the quarter and Dunolly led by 11 points at the final change.

Goodwin kicked an amazing goal on the run from tight on the boundary to open the scoring for Dunolly and put the lead out to 17 points.

Newstead answered with two goals before another goal for Dunolly came when Lloyd Needs kicked truly on the run at the 12-minute mark.

McMurtrie then kicked his fourth goal of the game, and then James Charlton goaled after receiving a 50-metre penalty, putting Newstead in front at the 18-minute mark and it was looking like a hometown victory.

Step up Goodwin, who kicked two amazing running goals in succession from tight on the boundary where he goaled from earlier in the term to give the Eagles a very exciting victory.

Besides Goodwin, Jay McDonald across half back was another who could hold his head up high as he repelled many of Newstead’s attacking moves for the game.

Others to play well for Dunolly were Adal Zuk, Burt, Lachlan Tranter and Hunter McDonald.

Newstead named Nick Woodman, Alex Murphy, Hayden Hall, McMurtrie, Brad Richardson and Ben Moran, who could easily have slotted five goals.
