MCDFNL Round 9 Football Preview Talbot v Trentham
Two of the MCDFNL’s most talented teams will square off this weekend, as Talbot hosts Trentham in what’s expected to be an enthralling encounter.
Despite their late fightback falling a mere two points short, the Hawks will take plenty of positives from their gripping game versus Carisbrook into this weekend, especially after the Redbacks dominated Talbot by 61 points earlier this season.
After struggling to slow Carisbrook’s superiority inside forward 50 back in round three, Charles Aitken and Kirk Lang led a much-improved back six while Dylan Tarczon, Tommy Alkemade and Victor Micallef battled hard around the contest. Talbot will need to maintain its defensive improvement against the reigning premiers, who led the competition in points scored last season.
While the Saints were at their dominant best against Campbells Creek in their last outing, their record against their title rivals this season has been less than stellar.
After opening their season with a 42-point defeat in a Grand Final rematch with Carisbrook, the Saints were overrun by Harcourt in round seven, conceding 20 goals in a 53-point loss.
With the Hawks possessing an equally talented plethora of goalkickers to themselves, Trentham will call upon Taylor Ford, Mitchell Peeler and Alister Ferrier to limit chances for Talbot’s dangerous forward line.
These two teams last met back in round five of the 2025 season, when a dominant second quarter allowed Trentham to end Talbot’s unbeaten start to the campaign with a 33-point win.
