MCDFNL Round 9 Football Preview Maldon v Maryborough Giants
After an extra week off due to the bye, the Maryborough Giants return to action this weekend when they travel to Bill Woodfull Reserve to take on a Maldon side looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat to Newstead.
The Giants entered the break on a high after one of their most impressive performances of the season, defeating Newstead by 11 points.
Trailing by three points at the final change, the visitors finished strongly, kicking the final two goals to secure a valuable victory.
Scott Miller again led from the front, while Cody Wright, Rhys Wagstaff, Cobie Read, Riley Govan and Declan Wagstaff were all influential contributors.
Maldon, meanwhile, will be eager to respond after being overwhelmed by Newstead. Despite that result, the Bombers have shown throughout the season that they are capable of matching quality opposition.
Darcy Kelly, Matthew Gray, Aaron Millen, and Tadgh Cananzi have all been consistent performers, while Ash Woodman remains a dangerous target in attack.
One area that could prove decisive is the Giants ability to generate multiple scoring options. Karson Guareschi, Brandon Carter, Atticus Cullinan and Rhys Egan have all contributed goals in recent weeks, making the Giants difficult to match up on inside 50.
The midfield battle will also be crucial. Miller and Wright have been driving much of the Giants’ recent improvement, while Maldon will rely on Kelly, Millen, and Gray to provide the Bombers with first use of the football.
