MCDFNL Round 15 Football Preview — Natte Bealiba vs Carisbrook

Since Natte Bealiba joined the MCDFNL for the 2011 season, the Swans and Redbacks have been two of the competition’s most decorated teams, routinely crossing paths on their way to winning three premierships each in that timeframe.

While the latest encounter in this decorated rivalry won’t have the historic significance of their back-to-back Grand Final battles in 2018 and 2019 or last season’s extra-time thriller in the preliminary final, it will have momentous ramifications on the top eight.

Despite last Saturday’s 23-point defeat to Trentham in a low-scoring affair where they dearly missed Harry Butler to alleviate the attention off fellow star forward Tim Rinaldi, Carisbrook remain atop the MCDFNL ladder and firmly in control of their top four destiny.

The Swans don’t have similar luxuries after seeing their buffer inside the top eight slashed to four points following their convincing 77-point loss to Navarre.

With Maldon and Lexton facing off in a crucial clash for the top eight, Natte will be well aware that a round 15 defeat would wipe out that margin.

Knowing how dangerous they can be come September, Carisbrook will be galvanised to dampen Natte’s finals chances.

To avoid that fate, the Swans will need to improve their ball use and work around the contest after Carisbrook’s Thomas Gardam, Blake Matthews and Cooper Tatchell dominated in that department back in round two, helping Rinaldi kick five in a 76-point victory.
