MCDFNL Round 14 Netball Preview — Dunolly vs Maldon

Courtesy of their nail-biting six-goal victory over the Maryborough Giants, Dunolly can almost sense the sweet taste of finals qualification. However, they can ill afford to relax in their favourable position when they welcome Maldon to Deledio Reserve.

The Eagles had their cushion inside the top eight in imminent danger last Saturday, entering three-quarter time level with a menacing Maryborough 29-29.

Assisted by Ashlee Lierich, Demcy Fraser and Ruby Lang’s timely interceptions as well as Charlotte Liddicoat and Mel Schodde’s precise passing, Hannah Kenny and Lara Clements scored 15 fourth-quarter goals to double Dunolly’s buffer inside the final’s places to eight points.

With Maryborough playing Lexton and Harcourt hosting Talbot, victory on Saturday would all but clinch Dunolly’s ticket to finals, yet the Bombers will pose an intriguing test.

After their stellar showing against Campbells Creek and Talbot, Maldon’s new defensive pairing of Heidi Brookes and Laney McNeill will look to contain the in-form shooting duo of Kenny and Clements.

As the Bombers attempt to replicate their brilliant start against the Hawks from last weekend, midcourters Claire Kelly and Charlotte Harrison will look to create a platter of early scoring chances for Sophie Zammit and Alannah Furmston.

Zammit’s personal season-high of 25 goals last weekend was more than what the Eagles allowed in their season opener against Maldon on Good Friday, hoping to replicate that 25-goal victory tomorrow.
