Local Snapshot - Victorian Pipe band Championships.

The Highland spirit returned to Maryborough on Saturday for the advent of the Victorian Pipe Band Championships. Hundreds of onlookers from near and far made their way to Princes Park to see the state’s best compete.

Competing bands played one song each round while they were assessed on tuning, unison and expression.
With each band performing in different traditional dress, presentation was also assessed at the championships.
Impressive strong women and strong men events returned this year.

Despite the cold afternoon, large crowds gathered at both circles to watch each band perform.
Four Drum Majors performed in the afternoon, displaying their conducting cues and skillful marching.
Each competing band assembled at the end of the day to form the mass band.
