Local crime night returns this weekend

True crime returns to Maryborough this weekend as the Terry Floyd Foundation runs a night of mystery and intrigue for a charitable cause.

Back in town this Saturday for its fourth local iteration, Insight into Crime promises attendees a night of “war stories” from those who know crime best.

Attendees will hear from retired Victoria Police homicide detective, Charlie Bezzina, alongside crime writer and former Herald Sun journalist, Keith Moor.

Not only covering crimes old and new, locals will also hear an update on the ongoing investigation and search for Terry Floyd — who was abducted and murdered in 1975.

But the night is more than one for the morbidly interested. Instead, it will help raise money for rural kids across the state.

The Terry Floyd Foundation is a charity dedicated to helping children in rural and isolated communities overcome social and economic disadvantage to reach their full potential.

From putting on breakfasts at regional schools once a month to distributing gifts at Christmas, the charity’s founder, Daryl Floyd, said it was all a way to give back.

“By setting up the Terry Floyd Foundation, not only are we honouring Terry’s memory and legacy, but we’re also giving back to communities across the state for how they helped us out,” he said.

Last year, almost 200 people attended the event raising over $10,000 — it’s a success story Daryl hopes to recreate.

“We’d really like for the community to come along again and give us their support because it’s very hard … as a non-profit organisation to continue the work that we want to do,” he said.

“By the community getting behind us and giving us that support, that’ll reassure us we can continue.”

The event is running this Saturday, October 11, at the Maryborough Highland Society.

Doors open at 6 for a 7 pm start.

Attendees can expect a silent auction, raffle, book signing, and merchandise which will be available for purchase.

Tickets for the 18+ event are $40 per person.

Bookings can be made to Daryl 0402 125 551 with more information on the Terry Floyd Foundation Facebook page.
