Lexton feel Redbacks’ bite, going down by 110
The Redbacks have solidified their status as an MCDFNL contender in 2025, poisoning the Tigers attack to just 19 points in a commanding 110-point victory.
With both teams keen to bounce back from their round four losses to Talbot and Navarre respectively, it was Carisbrook who dominated the match immediately.
While recent fixtures between Carisbrook and Lexton have been low scoring affairs, the Redbacks got off to a dream start, kicking 32 unanswered points in the first quarter to have the Tigers on the ropes immediately.
Lexton tried their best to recover from a nightmare opening term, but they were already trapped in the Redbacks’ web, as the hosts continued to kick away with seven second quarter goals to have the four points all but wrapped up at half time leading by 71.
With the visitors able to catch their breath at the main break, the third quarter was reminiscent of recent clashes between the two sides, with only three goals kicked in the term.
Carisbrook managed to extend their comfortable advantage to 78 points with two goals, while Lexton’s Jordan Madafferi snagged his second goal of the game in the third.
It would be the last major the Tigers kicked for the game, as the Redbacks put the finishing touches on a famous victory over the 2024 preliminary finalists with five goals in the last quarter.
In their highest-scoring game of the season, five players kicked multiple goals for the Redbacks, with Tim Rinaldi’s bag of five and Thomas Gardam’s four goals capping off great individual performances.
The duo were named in Carisbrook’s best players alongside Darcy Bond, Adam Hurse, Angus McKinna and Andrew Toan.
As Lexton’s only goal-scorer, Madafferi was a standout for the visitors in a deeply disheartening loss, with Thomas McGregor, Matthew Smith-Bye, Tyler Trickey, Adrian Verhoeven and Tom Fisher also named in the best players.
