Last reverse triathlon of the season wrapped up
The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted the last reverse triathlon of its 2024/25 club championship season from the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre on Sunday, May 18.
The event involved a run and ride, and finished with a swim in the warmth of the indoor 25 m pool, which was welcomed by all triathletes.
The long course format involved a 2 km run, 8 km cycle, and 400 m swim, and the short course 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.
In the Open Male long course, it was local triathlete Cooper Mark who was competing in a Victorian-wide field with Tyler Beale from Bendigo and Nick Ocean from Gippsland lining up to challenge the course.
All triathletes enjoyed the run, ride, and swim as they strived to produce strong performances in the cool outdoor and warm indoor conditions.
In the end it was Mark who touched the finish tile in first place (34:09), with Ocean (42:31) in second place, and Beale (in his first reverse triathlon) in third place (47:07).
Toolleen-based Iron-woman Jane Anderson also enjoyed the conditions, setting another blistering 8 km cycle leg, coupled with a strong swim to win the Open Female long course category in 42:41.
In the short course, it was Will Coutts who produced the strongest performance of the day to win the Open Male category in the quick time of 22:09.
Ella Govan also made a welcome return to the course, finishing in the impressive time of 23:45 to win the under 16 Female category.
Next to touch down was Kate Cain (28:40) to win the Open Female category, with young Angus Beer, in his first ever club event, showing outstanding triathlon form to finish in the time of 34:30 to win the under 16 Male category.
The next, and final event on the 2045/25 Club calendar, will be the Goldfields Reservoir Fun Run involving a 9.8km run (long course) and 4.9km run (short course) on Sunday, June 2.
Registrations commence at 9 am for a 9.30 am start.
