After their round five loss to East Point, the Lady Redbacks ran onto Carisbrook Recreation Reserve ready to impress in front of their home supporters.

They did so immediately when club captain Olivia Butler collected the ball in the forward line and snapped an early goal for the Lady Redbacks.

Lake Wendouree responded with a fury of blows, possessing exceptional accuracy in front of goal to kick 4.0 to lead by 16 points after a free-flowing first quarter.

With both sides focused on making the opposition work harder for their points, the second quarter was a vigorous affair, with only one goal scored throughout the term.

That goal was kicked by the Lakers, extending their advantage to 23 points with the Lady Redbacks well and truly still in the contest.

Coming out of the half time break, the Lady Redbacks conjured a second wind, catching the Lakers off guard.

Their efforts were rewarded with a second goal when Jade Cameron converted from a set shot.

The Lady Redbacks would add another two points in the third while allowing just seven points to reduce the deficit by one heading into the last quarter.

While Carisbrook stepped up defensively to concede just three points in the final term, the Lakers were just as stout, pitching a shutout in the fourth to hold off the Lady Redbacks 6.6.42 to 2.5.17.

Despite the loss, the result is a massive improvement for the Lady Redbacks, who lost to the Lakers by 84 points in the opening round of the season just six weeks ago.

Sherriden Byrne was named in the best players for Carisbrook alongside goal kickers Butler and Cameron as well as Danae Every.

The Lady Redbacks will now take the long trip to Maddingley Park on Sunday to tackle Bacchus Marsh hoping to improve from their 125-point loss to the Cobras in round two.
