Lady Redbacks fight hard in 165-point defeat
Despite the best efforts of the Carisbrook Lady Redbacks, they were no match for the Bacchus Marsh Cobras, losing by 165 points.
The Lady Redbacks entered their road trip to Maddingley Park with their tails up after kicking two goals in their 25-point loss to Lake Wendouree last week.
Even with their newfound confidence, the Cobras, fresh off a 36-point win over East Point in round six, built up a noticeable advantage early, leading by 37 points at quarter time after 12 scoring shots.
The Cobras sunk their fangs deeper into the game in the second term, kicking nine goals for the quarter to balloon their lead out to 97 points at half time.
After the main break, the Lady Redbacks were determined to limit the damage in the second half, conceding just six goals in the third quarter as the margin grew to 137 points.
The Lady Redbacks continued to scratch and claw until the final siren. They had their best defensive quarter in the last term, as the Cobras scored four final quarter goals, finishing as 165-point victors after keeping Carisbrook scoreless.
Remi Jardine and Fern Winnell had their best performances of the season for the Lady Redbacks, deservingly named in the best players alongside Emme Johnson and Sarah Lynch.
The Lady Redbacks return to Carisbrook Recreation Reserve on Sunday to take on the undefeated Darley Devils.
