Keogh’s 13 goals see Saints fly high over Creek
Club legend Jake Keogh continues to wind back the clock in 2026, ending Saturday with a remarkable 13-goal haul in Trentham’s 157-point demolition of Campbells Creek.
With 2025 MCDFNL leading goalkicker James Regan not playing, Keogh excelled as the Saints’ primary target inside 50. After kicking a respectable 36 goals in 2025, good enough for 10th in the competition, Saturday’s haul has brought Keogh’s tally to 38 this campaign.
Looking to rebound following their disheartening 53-point defeat to Harcourt in their last outing, the Saints showed no remorse to a Campbells Creek side looking to place some resistance after losing by 235 points to Carisbrook.
Outside of an early Magpies goal, the first quarter was all one-way traffic to Trentham’s goal square, taking a 46-point lead into quarter time following eight first-term majors.
With Joel Cowan and Joel Dovaston dominating around the contest while Harrison Knight and Alister Ferrier dissected the Magpies’ defensive structure with their crisp passing, the Saints added six unanswered goals in the second quarter as the margin expanded to 85 points at half time.
The main break provided very little respite for the travelling Magpies, with Trentham booting eight goals to one in the third quarter to increase the visitors’ deficit into triple digits.
Campbells Creek were valiant until the very end, allowing just four goals in the fourth quarter, but the message had been sent by the reigning premiers as they remain fixated on defending their crown.
After finishing with his highest game goal tally since he kicked 14 in round six of his historic 103-goal 2022 campaign, Keogh was an easy selection for Trentham’s best players alongside Knight, Cowan, Ferrier, Dovaston and Samuel Bartels.
As for the Magpies, Tyson Williams, Dylan Stevens, James Haber, Isaac Fletcher, Mitchell Stevens and Joel Wootton were listed as their better players, while Jesse Presser and Jack Larkin finished as their only goal-kickers.
