Home energy workshop on
Goldfields Sustainability Group will be hosting a home energy efficiency workshop for locals to understand how they can save household energy usage.

Mount Alexander Shire have recently commenced a “Whole of Home Resilience Project” aiming to help their residents understand how they can save energy in their homes.
A team of five accredited home assessors have conducted almost 150 energy efficiency, bushfire and flooding resilience home assessments for households across the shire.
The Goldfields Sustainability Group have arranged for one of the assessors, Janet Baker, to audit a Maryborough home.
The home owner has agreed to have the assessment findings presented at a workshop on Saturday, May 10 from 2 until 4 pm.
Goldfields Sustainability Group secretary Barry Parsons said attending the presentation is a free and valuable opportunity to learn how a resident can reduce energy consumption throughout their home.
“It will take place at a home that has been assessed a few days previously and the auditor will point out where energy savings can be made on-site. Goldfields Sustainability Group is paying for the audit so there is no cost,” he said.
“There will be an opportunity to ask the home energy auditor questions and share with others attending information about various home energy saving improvements.”
This assessment will consider heating, cooling, lighting, pool operation and hot water supply energy use.
Mr Parsons said the cost of heating and cooling a house makes up a significant portion of a home owner’s energy bills, but reassessing energy usage can be an effective way to eliminate any unnecessary costs.
“On average, households can spend up to $800 a year, or a third of their energy bill, just on heating. Much of the state’s housing is older and was not designed to withstand projected rising temperatures or frequent extreme weather events,” he said.
With a limited number of places available, those interested are advised to email goldfieldssg@gmail.com or call 0423 822 506 by Thursday, May 8.
The address of the presentation will be emailed to those attending on Friday, May 9.
