Heather Carr earns bronze at world selection event
Maryborough Martial Arts head instructor, Heather Carr, recently had a great opportunity to try out for the World Championships Taekwondo Poomsae Australian Team pre-selection event held on May 1 in Queensland.
The world pre-selection event was held at the Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast and attracted 163 top athletes from all over Australia to contest for selection for the Australian team who will compete in Chuncheon, Korea in September this year at the World Championships.
The World Championships are held every two years, with the last one held in Hong Kong in 2024. The various age divisions range from 12 to over 60.
Heather along with her husband Brian, train once a week in Melbourne on Wednesday mornings in addition to their teaching and training at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre.
Whilst Heather secured a bronze medal, she missed out on making the final team selection.
“The elite standard was very high, especially in the younger divisions where one division had over 22 players contesting for a top five spot for selection,” she said.
“It was a great experience to be able to participate at that level. My goal is to now keep training and improving for another opportunity in two years time.”
