Harcourt surge home by 99 points over Navarre
Harcourt remain undefeated after beating Navarre by 99 points at Harcourt Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Jed Rodda played a key role in the victory, kicking the first two goals of the game inside three minutes and being involved with two others via a short pass to Baxter Gurd and a hand pass to Thomas Walters.
The Lions kicked seven goals to two in the opening term to lead by 31 points at quarter time.
Another four goals came for the Lions in the second quarter, with two coming from Cameron Anderson, which included an amazing left-foot snap across his body from the boundary pocket.
Navarre’s first entry into the forward 50 was at the 11-minute mark and resulted in a running goal to Sam Walker, but the Lions still held the upper hand to lead at half time by 52 points.
It was one-way traffic in the third stanza, with the Lions having nine shots on goal while keeping Navarre scoreless.
The final term saw a much more competitive contest, with the Lions kicking three goals to Navarre’s two.
The first goal was from Navarre’s Fletcher Douglas, and then Rickard kicked his second goal of the game a minute later.
Then Harcourt kicked the final three goals of the game to win comfortably.
The Lions’ Kaleb McBride was named best player for Harcourt, and others to play well were Braydon Vaz, Anderson, Jack Threlfall, Rodda and Josh Hogg.
Walters and Anderson kicked four goals each, with Gurd and Rodda kicking three.
Defensive players Jayden Fowkes and Nick Birthisel were named as best players for Navarre along with Brad Carter, Daniel Reading, John Jok and Walker.
