Harcourt earns hard-fought win over Lexton
A devastating final quarter blitz from Harcourt has seen the Lions storm home to defeat Lexton by 34 points at the Tigers’ home ground on the weekend.
Despite going in as heavy favourites, the Lions were made to work every inch of the way, with Lexton producing their best performance of the season and taking it right up to the premiership contenders.
The Tigers came out breathing fire early, jumping Harcourt and taking a 13-point lead into quarter time.
They maintained the pressure through the second term, and while the Lions edged back into the contest, Lexton still held firm, trailing by just 11 points at the main break.
The Harcourt faithful were expecting their side to take control after half time — but the Tigers had other ideas.
In a spirited third quarter, Lexton continued to match the Lions around the ground and, in a great effort, actually hit the front to lead by four points at the final change.
The game was well and truly on in the fourth quarter, but what followed was a class above.
Harcourt exploded into action in the final term, completely taking over the contest.
The Lions piled on 13 scoring shots to five, slamming home eight goals in a dominant display to turn a tight battle into a comfortable win.
Mark Noonan led from the front, well supported by Nathan Anderson, while Jed Rodda was a constant threat up forward, finishing with five goals.
Mitch McKnight chipped in with three majors, and strong contributions also came from Jack Threlfall and Thomas Walters.
For Lexton, it was a much-improved showing, with Tom Cullinan, Brandon Green, Billy Briody, Luke Madden, Will Maconachie and Bryce Karslake all fighting hard throughout.
