Refreshed from the bye after their thrilling three-goal win against Campbells Creek, the Lions roared into action immediately, taking an early 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Jordan Bagley led the way for the hosts with 11 goals from 15 attempts, while Gemma Papadimos made six of seven shots.

The Bombers’ shooters made the most of their chances scoring six from eight shots to keep Maldon in touching distance.

Despite their lead, the Lions rolled the dice to start the second quarter, as Bagley replaced Carly Chaplin as goal keeper to pair with Morgan Yarwood in defence.

The roll was a Yahtzee decision, as the new pairing kept a shutout in the second term with the help of their midcourt players Tamara Farr and Ella Rule.

Maldon’s Sophie Bennett and Gabrielle Kelly provided regular service to their shooters, but the Bombers were inaccurate, missing all eight shots in the second quarter.

Despite their own inaccuracies, Papadimos and Suzie Rinaldi made 12 from 22 attempts to increase the Lions’ lead to 23.

The half-time break didn’t slow down the hosts, combatting waves of the Bombers’ attacks to take the third quarter 16-7.

While Maldon defenders Emma Webb and Alice McManus were unlucky on some of their interception attempts, Bagley, who moved back to goal shooter, and Papadimos refound their rhythm, with the former netting ten and the latter scoring all six of her shots.

The final term proved to be a similar story to the previous quarter, as the relentless Lions defence halted Maldon to seven goals on their way to a 63-20 triumph.

Bagley scored 12 in the last quarter to end up with 33 goals for the game, while Papadimos added another six to cap off a strong performance.
