Just like their last meeting between these two teams, virtually nothing could separate them until a late scoring surge from Lara Clements and Hannah Kenny allowed the Eagles to break away from the Lions right at the death.

Until then however, it was either side’s game.

Dunolly boasted the upperhand for the first half of the match, leading by a narrow three goal margin at quarter and half time respectively.

Shuffling Usula van Dyk and Morgan Howorth into centre and wing attack proved effective for the visitors, who in a do-or-die third quarter clawed back that deficit to tie things up neatly at the end of the third quarter, 36-all.

As in their round two clash, the fourth quarter proved to be Dunolly’s strongest with Clements and Kenny digging deep, combining to produce 14 goals to Harcourt’s eight.

The defensive tandem of Dunolly veteran Ashlee Lierich and Demcy Fraser continued to lock down Harcourt’s goal end in the final quarter, meaning Harcourt’s final goals had to be earned.

That shouldn’t discredit the efforts of Harcourt’s Jordan Bagley and Jarrenhy Webb, with the scoring duo improving on their earlier performance against Dunolly by a substantial 13 goals.

Despite Saturday’s hard-fought loss for Harcourt, Bagley remains a key figure in the league — currently sitting ninth in the goal shooting tally with 293 goals scored over 14 games.
