Donation benefits elderly
Maryborough Lions Club has donated some essential equipment to local aged care provider Havilah which is expected to help both residents and staff.
Christmas came early for Havilah this year when the Maryborough Lions Club donated two Raizer chairs to the organisation.
The mobile lifting chairs, which cost $13,450 in total, help people who have fallen to get up.
Unlike the organisation’s existing hover mats, which are heavy and difficult to use in tight spaces, the Raizer chairs can be operated by one staff member.
The donation continues a long-standing relationship between the local lions club and Havilah made possible through community support.
Maryborough Lions Club treasurer Mario Rosini said the donation was funded through second-hand book sales at their local shop on High Street.
“Without that we wouldn’t have the pleasure to be providing the support which Havilah may require,” he said.
For more than a decade their bookshop has been a quiet success which, in the last financial year, raised over $100,000 through book sales no higher than a few dollars.
Money raised through the book store, Mr Rosini said, is distributed among worthy causes in the area.
“Every cent goes back into the community,” he said.
The bookshop’s manager Lorraine Parker was happy to see the initiative’s ongoing success.
“I feel very proud to be able to contribute that funding from the bookshop to be able to assist wherever,” she said.
As was Havilah’s director of care Stacey Dawson who thanked the community group for their support.
“The Raizer chairs will enhance resident safety and dignity by allowing a quick, comfortable, and less distressing way to assist someone after a fall,” she said.
“For our staff, they provide a safer manual handling option, reducing physical strain and enabling efficient care.
“We are truly grateful to the Maryborough Lions Club for their ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our community.”
