COMMUNITY NEWS - DEMENTIA ADVOCACY
Dementia Advocate and Bealiba local Heather Cooper (second from left) gave a talk and demonstration this week to many attendees including Iris Anderson, Dianne Simpson, Deanna Mata and Bev Stephens, on Living Well with dementia.
Part of Dementia Awareness month, observed globally throughout September, nearly 20 people attended the talk at the Girl Guides hall to hear Ms Cooper’s personal experience with Dementia and strategies for living a fulfilling life after diagnosis.
“By embracing the challenges with the same determination and collaboration, we can ensure those living with dementia and their families are supported, valued and empowered to live their best lives,” she said in a speech on the day.
“Dementia Advocates show Australia we are not suffering, we’re on a Dementia Adventure”.
Ms Cooper also featured on ABC’s The Piano earlier this year and spoke about her conditions, and the many hobbies, including music, she has kept regardless of her diagnosis six years ago.
