After their entertaining battle back in round four, both teams entered this game with some confidence that they could leave Avoca Public Reserve with a win.

The Bulldogs, who won that round four encounter, grabbed an early lead thanks to difference-makers Riley Hamilton and Alexander Riches, up by 14 points at quarter time.

Keen to earn their first victory in senior football since 2022, the Magpies, led by Dylan Stevens and Michael White, reduced the deficit to nine points by half time after outscoring the Bulldogs by three goals to two.

Scoring shots began to rain down at the start of the second half, with both teams trying to find an edge.

Despite the Bulldogs arguably being the better team throughout the quarter, inaccuracy was very costly for the hosts. After kicking 1.7 to Campbells Creek’s 3.1, their lead shrank to three points at the final chance.

However, similar to their round four win over the Magpies, Avoca were able to gain the ascendancy with three goals in the final term to win by 21 points.

The Campbells Creek defence did a great job keeping Bulldogs forward Zac Lubeek to just one goal for the game, but Jordan Thomas cut loose to slot four goals for the hosts.

Avoca named Hamilton, Riches, Thomas, Brayden Northern, Bryce Howell and Byron Wynd as their best players.

Creeks’ Stevens once again led the way for the visitors, named among the best players. Others to play well were White, James Haber, Hadley Bassett, Harley Young and Nicholas O’Brien.
