Saturday’s clash was anyone’s game right up until the half time mark, where Campbells Creek snowballed their meagre lead out to an unreachable obstacle for Maldon.

The home side were eager for retribution following their defeat by Talbot the week earlier, and goaled 10 times in the first quarter to trail by three, with Creek scoring 13 goals of their own.

It was much the same in the second quarter, with Maldon goaling another 12 times and Creek finding the net for another 13 goals — with the scores reading 22-26 at the main break.

It was in the third quarter that the match stopped looking so even.

An emphatic Creek team found their avenue to goal 21 times this quarter while holding Maldon to just four goals of their own to hold an imposing 21-goal lead with 15 minutes of play remaining.

With the scent of the season’s first win in the air, Creek continued their domination, adding another 16 goals to their tally while Maldon fought hard to score another eight.

It proved to be too little too late for the home side, with Campbells Creek’s 29-goal win after a very close loss to Lexton earlier in the season proving they are a capable side to be watched for the remainder of the season.
