Fresh off their win against Maldon in round three, the Magpies started the game strongly, keeping pace with the reigning premiers in the opening stages.

Despite the almost immaculate shooting of Elouise Jones and Jemma Finning, who only missed one shot in the first quarter, some key interceptions from the Bulldogs defence, especially from Faith McKenzie, allowed Avoca to take control of the contest with a tone-setting run to end the opening term up 22-9.

After some early misses, Maddy Egan found her range quickly to score 15 first-quarter goals, while teammate Gina Beavis added seven from nine shots.

Following a disappointing end to the first quarter, the Magpies came out of the short break in fine form for a high-octane, sharp-shooting second term that ended 19-15 in the Bulldogs’ favour.

Egan and Beavis made the most of some sublime passing from Stacey Blair and Lucy Howell to score 19 goals from only 21 shots.

Not to be outdone, Jones and Finning were just as efficient with the chances created by Taylah Sartori and Ella Cochrane, with Jones netting nine with a 90 percent shooting rate and Finning contributing six.

Leading by 17 at the main break, the Bulldogs had an extra bite in the second half, extending their advantage to 28 after a 20-9 quarter.

The Avoca defence started to affect the Magpies’ shooting accuracy, with Jones scoring five and Finning netting four from their 14 combined shots.

Even under the constant pressure of Katina Hawken and Lizzy Clarke, Egan and Beavis were ruthless under the net, with Beavis leading the way with 11 from 12 attempts and Egan contributed nine.

Avoca saved their best quarter for last, playing hard until the final siren to earn a 43-goal victory following a 21-6 final quarter.

Beavis was a perfect nine for nine in the final quarter for the Bulldogs, while Egan also finished strongly with a 12-goal haul in the fourth.

Jones continued her hot shooting touch in the last term, scoring five to finish with an 84 field goal percentage as teammate Finning made two.
