Bulldogs go down in hard-fought Maldon match
It was a very close contest all day at Maldon before the home team kicked away in the final term to have a 30-point victory over the Bulldogs.
Avoca was boosted by the inclusion of former Bulldogs player, currently playing with South Bendigo, Logan Howell, who was playing on permit and played his 100th game for the Bulldogs, kicking three goals for his old team.
However, it wasn’t enough to get the Bulldogs over the line in what was a tight contest for the first three quarters, as any team could have still won at three quarter time.
Avoca had plenty of the ball in the first term, but inaccuracy was costly as they were three points behind at quarter time.
The second quarter provided a great contest and once again at half time, it was a three-point deficit for the Bulldogs.
Maldon started to gain the upper hand in the third term and took a 12-point lead into the final quarter and finished stronger with four goals to two to get the win for the home team.
The victory was the Bombers’ fourth in succession over Avoca in the past four years and has placed them in eighth position, and has seen the Bulldogs slip from seventh to tenth place.
Maldon’s Bailey Brown had a big influence on the game, snagging four goals, and Noah Thompson, Nat McLaren, Billy Johns and Tristam Rowe were all named amongst the better players.
Avoca named Riley Hamilton, Scott Cawthan, Bryce Howell, Matt Wardlaw, Alex Bowd and Brayden Northern as their better players with Zac Lubeek kicking four goals.
