After having the bye in the opening round of the 2025 CBL North West competition, the Tigers will be determined to start their campaign strongly after finishing at the bottom of the ladder in the last four seasons.

As for the Blazers, they will need to pick themselves up quickly following back-to-back losses at home against the Bacchus Marsh Lions and Macedon Ranges Rockies.

With only eight games remaining in their regular season, the Blazers will need to make up for their early lost ground quickly if they are to challenge the top four.

The Blazers showed flashes of their potential in both matches last weekend, especially on offence, where they displayed their scoring depth.

While Bailey Jacobs led the way with 44 points across the two games, he was well supported by Ky Swards while Jack Skinner and Harry Alsop produced some outstanding flourishes during the first quarter of both games, where the Blazers were at their best.

Despite their moments of control, the Blazers couldn’t generate that game-changing run that could put the match in their favour, a vital component their first two opponents showcased.

The Blazers’ offence came out firing with 26 points in the first quarter of their opening match against the Lions. However, a 13-0 Bacchus Marsh run to end the second quarter, slightly caused by several Maryborough turnovers, put the Blazers in a hole they couldn’t recover from.

Attempting to bounce back quickly, Maryborough were dictating the first quarter against the Rockies, but some late lapses allowed the visitors to enter quarter time with a three-point lead.

It was a lead Macedon Ranges would never relinquish, taking advantage of some missed opportunities from Maryborough in the second quarter to allow them to manage the contest in the second half.

After starting last season 1-4, the Blazers know full well how a slow start can quickly derail a season, and will be keen to showcase a killer instinct this Sunday at Kyneton Sports and Aquatic Centre.

It was Maryborough’s 37-point victory over Kyneton last year that kick-started their late finals bid, with Jacobs producing a highlight performance, scoring an astounding 39 points, including the Blazers’ final 17 points.
