AV’s response times down
Local ambulance response times have improved on last year’s performance across all metrics, recent report finds.

Central Goldfields Shire patients are receiving life-saving care faster than before as more ambulances reach their patients within the state target of 15 minutes.
According to Ambulance Victoria’s (AV) 2024/25 Quarter 4 report, between April 1 to June 30, paramedics attended 57 percent of Code 1 “lights and sirens” calls within the state target up from 51.1 percent this time last year.
However, it’s a difference to the average response time that equates to just a two second improvement from where local crews were 12-months ago — from 19 minutes and 13 seconds to 19 minutes and 11 seconds.
Local crews also got to Code 2 incidents, which aren’t time critical, one minute and 42 seconds faster — from 46 minutes and 59 seconds to 45 minutes and 17 seconds.
In comparison, paramedics across the state reached 65.3 percent of Code 1 patients within the state target, up from 64.2 percent this time last year.
Although just a one percent improvement it equates to a 10 second difference to the average response time — from 15 minutes and 37 seconds to 15 minutes and 27 seconds.
State crews also saw a similar improvement to local crews in their average Code 2 response times at a one minute and 40 second improvement — from 46 minutes and 44 seconds to 45 minutes and four seconds.
AV acting executive director regional operations Michael Georgiou emphasised the ongoing message to save paramedics for emergencies.
“We’re grateful to Victorians who are choosing to use alternative care for non-urgent issues — it means ambulances are available faster for emergencies. That community effort is helping us save lives,” he said.
“I thank our highly skilled paramedics and first responders who do a remarkable job providing best care to their communities, each and every day.”
