Adelaide Lead hosts rally
The Historic Rally Association organised a car rally out of Adelaide Lead over the weekend.
Adelaide Lead hosted a car rally on the weekend that saw teams navigate the sealed roads and bush tracks of the Central Goldfields Shire.
The event, run by the Historic Rally Association, saw teams navigate around 250 kilometres of the shire in memory of one of their own.
The event, dubbed the IMODS Rally, was in memory of the rally community’s Dave Smith.
Road director for the event Phil Nicholas said Mr Smith gave a lot to their community, either as a navigator, making for fearsome competition, or a diligent organiser always present at events.
“As a competitor, organiser and all-round nice bloke, the rally community is richer for what he did and poorer as he has left us,” Mr Nicholas said.
The club, running an event from Adelaide Lead for the first time, brought the rally to the Central Goldfields Shire in honour of Mr Smith’s Nightstalker Rallies.
While his events were fully navigational on unsealed roads, last weekend’s event included a mix across 50 kilometres of Regularity Stages and 200 kilometres of Touring Sections.
The event was possible thanks to a community effort, including around 60 officials, almost five for every one car in the rally.
