2026 MCDFNL Netball Round 8 Preview — Natte Bealiba vs Harcourt
After going a perfect six for six in their opening six matches, Natte Bealiba will look to preserve their unblemished record when they host Harcourt at CHS Broadbent Oval.
Despite Harcourt routinely showcasing a Lions heart, there hasn’t been a correlation to Lions luck so far this season, as their consistently strong showings haven’t been rewarded with a victory.
Thanks to standout moments from Jordan Bagley, Ursula van Dyk and Laura Suckling, the Lions found themselves in an entertaining battle against Trentham last weekend, trailing by two goals at half time before a 19-10 third term sealed their unfortunate fate.
While it would be an unrealistic expectation for them to obtain a much-deserved victory against the powerhouse Swans, if the Lions maintain their current form, it seems somewhat inevitable for their fortune to turn around.
The key for Harcourt to produce a competitive showing similar to their recent battle with contenders Carisbrook is to contain the Swans’ high-powered offence.
Even as star shooter Emma Ryan sits on the sidelines due to injury, Natte’s attack continues to sing beautiful symphonies thanks to the midcourt excellence of Chloe Ross, Ebony Raven and Ella Tranter as well as the stewardship of Sian Mortlock.
Since returning to the side this season, Mortlock has not only been a reliable scorer with 183 goals, ranking sixth in the competition, but has also been an excellent mentor for youngsters Chelsea Ross and her sister, Eve Mortlock, who have done a tremendous job attempting to fill Ryan’s shoes.
