2026 MCDFNL Netball Round 4 Preview — Newstead vs Dunolly
Currently sitting in the competition’s upper echelons with a 3-0 record, Dunolly will attempt to maintain its perfect start against a Newstead team determined to earn its first victory.
Following a one-win campaign in 2025, the Eagles have been A grade’s surprise package this season, highlighted by their 36-goal victory over Campbells Creek.
Their 63 goals last weekend were the Eagles’ highest game tally since round 15 of the 2024 season, with the return of Lara Clements providing Dunolly an offensive linchpin alongside emerging youngsters Stevie Collins and Chloe Goodwin.
Dunolly’s defence has also been brilliant. While three-time Nalder Tracey trophy winner Ashlee Lierich continues to lockdown the goal circle, Teagan Hovey and Ruby Lang have also impressed in the defensive third.
While the Eagles have generated optimism with their trailblazing start, Newstead have fallen out of the blocks this season, currently holding the inverse record of their round four opponents.
With Jessica Currie dictating play in the midcourt, Layla Benson-Zepnick halting attacks with her ballhawk skills and shooting tandem Emily Cooper and Brianna Jury excelling, the Steaders found themselves in a prime position to kickstart their finals push on Anzac Day.
However, after trailing at every quarter interval, Trentham produced a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to deny the Steaders a vital victory. While the sting of a two-goal loss may linger, Newstead proved on Saturday night they can recover from their disappointing start to the season and will be keen to commence their rebound tomorrow.
