After boasting a two-goal advantage at quarter time, the wheels quickly fell off for Trentham against early frontrunners Harcourt last weekend, eventually tumbling to a 53-point defeat.

While they scored reasonably well against the swarming Lions’ pressure, Trentham struggled to contain Harcourt’s rampaging attack in the clearance and inside 50. The Lions’ final score of 125 points, 105 of which came in the last three quarters, is the largest total the Saints have conceded since their 2024 Grand Final defeat to Natte Bealiba.

With key defender Taylor Ford hoping to overcome his handcuffed start to the season quickly and the likes of Mitchell Peeler and Alister Ferrier hoping to step up, Trentham will be keen to refine their defensive structure.

Similar to the Saints, Campbells Creek will enter this weekend motivated to prove themselves in the aftermath of their heavy defeat at Carisbrook.

While comfortably losing to the contending Redbacks is nothing to be ashamed of, the way it happened left a sour taste in the Magpies’ beak, smashed by 235 points, the club’s biggest losing margin in nearly 40 games.

Campbells Creek will be determined not to let one poor performance undo all of the competitive progress they’ve made this season, where they’ve showcased the ability to be combative against the league’s elite when they played Navarre a fortnight ago.
