2026 MCDFNL Football Round 4 Preview — Navarre vs Maldon
Navarre will head into this clash full of confidence after a dominant win over the Maryborough Giants, and they’ll be keen to keep that momentum rolling when they take on a Maldon outfit desperate to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss.
The Grasshoppers were impressive across the board last round, particularly through the midfield, where Sam Walker and Jack Mentha controlled proceedings.
Their ability to win the clearances and drive the ball forward gave Riley Bibby and the Navarre forwards plenty of opportunity, and they capitalised. If Navarre can replicate that level of midfield dominance, they’ll go a long way towards securing another win.
Maldon, however, won’t make it easy. The Bombers pushed Avoca right to the final siren last week, going down by just a point in a contest that could have gone either way.
They showed they have the ability to match it with quality opposition, particularly through Damian Wust and a midfield group that worked tirelessly all day. The challenge for Maldon will be to maintain that intensity for four quarters and make the most of their opportunities going forward.
One area that could prove decisive is forward efficiency. Navarre were able to convert their chances last week, while Maldon at times struggled to make their opportunities count in key moments.
In what shapes as a tight contest, that scoreboard pressure could be the difference between the two sides.
