Both Campbells Creek and Lexton head into this clash searching for their first win of the season, making it a crucial early-round contest.

Campbells Creek are coming off a tough round three loss to Dunolly at Deledio Reserve, going down by 66 points.

The Magpies were competitive early, trailing by just eight points at quarter time, but were unable to stem Dunolly’s momentum as the game wore on.

While the scoreboard didn’t favour them, there were still some encouraging signs. Jack Larkin again led from the front and was named among the best players, while Jesse Presser, James Martinovic, James Haber and Mitchell Stevens all contributed strongly.

However, inaccuracy in front of goal — finishing with 4.14 — proved costly and prevented them from applying meaningful scoreboard pressure.

Lexton, meanwhile, produced arguably their best performance of the season despite going down to Harcourt by 34 points. The Tigers were outstanding for three quarters, leading early and still holding a four-point advantage at the final change after an impressive third term.

The final quarter was where Harcourt’s class came to the fore, piling on eight goals to run away with the contest, but Lexton would have taken plenty of confidence from their ability to match it with one of the competition’s benchmark sides.

Strong contributors for the Tigers included Tom Cullinan, Brandon Green, Billy Briody, Luke Madden, Will Maconachie and Bryce Karslake, all of whom played key roles in keeping the contest tight for most of the afternoon.
