Thanks to the arrival of Ethan Brock, Dylan Tarczon and Victor Micallef, Talbot possesses arguably the most dangerous attack in the competition.
Alongside their off-season pickups, many key fixtures of the forward line that finished third in points scored last season remain, with Jarrod Stephens, Zac Cicchini and Jude McGuire helping Talbot kick 171 points past Campbells Creek last weekend.
While the Hawks attempt to overpower teams with their goal-kicking, the Redbacks look to put their opponents into a debilitating sleeper hold with their defence.
After allowing the second fewest points in the 2025 home and away season, Carisbrook opened 2026 by shutting down two elite teams in Trentham and Natte Bealiba on their way to comfortable victories.
These teams’ expertise doesn’t mean they aren’t outstanding at the other end, with Talbot routinely shutting down opponents last season while Carisbrook’s Tim Rinaldi and Harry Butler currently sit first and sixth on the goal-kicking ladder.
Talbot announced themselves as an MCDFNL contender last season with a thrilling seven-point victory over the Redbacks, thanks to a Stephens dagger late.
That wasn’t the only classic between the Hawks and Carisbrook in 2025, as the Redbacks survived a 62-point Talbot comeback to win the qualifying final by a point.
