2026 MCDFNL Football Round 2 Preview — Carisbrook vs Natte Bealiba
In their first meeting since their all-time preliminary final classic, Carisbrook attempts to capitalise on their Grand Final rematch win against fellow contender Natte Bealiba.
In the midst of one of the greatest finals series in recent MCDFNL history, the Redbacks and Swans produced a historic contest worthy of the occasion.
Despite Carisbrook holding a 19-point advantage at quarter time, it was Natte Bealiba who held the advantage late in regulation, leading with minutes to play before Tim Rinaldi converted a hard set shot to send the game into an overtime period the Redbacks prevailed in.
After improving his year-on-year goal tally from 25 in 2024 to a staggering 60 last season, Rinaldi was the star in Carisbrook’s convincing round one victory against Trentham, booting five goals.
The Redbacks defence thrived in the wintry conditions on Saturday, with Elliot Brandon-Jones and James Allan starring in a unit that allowed 41 points to the competition’s best offence last season.
Meanwhile, the Swans enter this weekend in a very different mindset following an 11-point defeat to Navarre on their home soil.
Despite the efforts of Daniel Vadala in the backline, Emmet Smith having an outstanding game up forward and Nathan Holt and Stephen Ross excelling in the midfield, Natte always seemed to be playing catch-up against the Grasshoppers.
Compounding the defeat was vice-captain Jai Howell going down with a dislocated right shoulder. Another unlucky break for a talented footballer who battled injuries all throughout last season.
In better news for the Swans, star recruit Ryan Semmell and club legend Trent Mortlock are set to return against the Redbacks, which would give Natte a major boost.
